Desktop Selection

In openSUSE, you can choose from various desktops (this dialog is not available when installing from the LiveCDs). The major ones, KDE and GNOME, are powerful graphical desktop environments similar to Windows. Find information about these in the KDE User Guide (↑KDE User Guide) and the GNOME User Guide (↑GNOME User Guide). This step is skipped when installing from a LiveCD, since this medium is already preconfigured to either use KDE or GNOME.

If you prefer a different desktop, choose Other for more options. The XFCE Desktop is a fast and lightweight desktop environment suitable for modest hardware. With Minimal X Window, install a graphical window manager that allows for running stand-alone X applications and console windows but does not provide the usual integrated desktop functionality. In Minimal Server Selection (Text Mode), only console terminals are available.
