IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition Version 1.1-OEM bundle

Introduction

IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition is a Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) server that complies with V1.4 of the J2EE specification. Like all J2EE 1.4 servers, it provides a platform for multi-tier enterprise applications, including support for

• Java Servlets
• JavaServer Pages (JSPs)
• Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs)
• Java Database Connectivity API (JDBC) for data access
• J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA)
• Java Message Service (JMS)
• Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI)
• Java Transaction API (JTA)
• Java API for XML-Based RPC (JAX-RPC) including support for web services
• J2EE Management Model
• J2EE Management Extensions API (JMX).

This product is based on the Apache Geronimo project and includes many open source projects.

Important: This packaging of IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition 1.1 is slightly different than the officially released version in that no install is provided by IBM. Accordingly, the user will note the following differences:

• The install and uninstall of this package is entirely performed by an IBM partner. Please refer to partner documentation for all details concerning IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition integration with the operating system integration. All IBM product documentation references to InstallShield do not apply to this packaging.
• The server's JVM (e.g. the WASCE_JAVA_HOME environment variable) is resolved according to new logic in WASCE_HOME/bin/setenv instead of InstallShield JVM resolution. If your server is unable to locate a suitable JVM in one of the well-known locations, edit this shell script so that WASCE_JAVA_HOME points to your JVM's root.
• The documented commands WASCE_HOME/bin/versionInfo and genVersionReport are not available in this packaging.

Review the License

The IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition license agreement is provided in several languages for your review. Choose and review the appropriate file from the license directory in your installation. Note: there is no license fee for this product but you may purchase a service agreement from IBM.
