Abstract

There are several ways to install the software needed for High Availability clusters: either from a command line, using zypper, or with YaST which provides a graphical user interface. After installing the software on all nodes that will be part of your cluster, the next step is to initially configure the cluster so that the nodes can communicate with each others. This can either be done manually (by editing a configuration file) or with the YaST cluster module.

[Note]Installing the Software Packages

The software packages needed for High Availability clusters are not automatically copied to the cluster nodes. Install SUSEŽ Linux Enterprise Server 11 and SUSEŽ Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 on all nodes that will be part of your cluster.

Installing the High Availability Extension

The packages needed for configuring and managing a cluster with the High Availability Extension are included in the High Availability installation pattern. This patterns is only available after SUSEŽ Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension has been installed as add-on. For information on how to install add-on products, refer to the SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Deployment Guide, chapter Installing Add-On Products .

  1. Start YaST and select Software+Software Management to open the YaST package manager.

  2. From the Filter list, select Patterns and activate the High Availability pattern in the pattern list.

  3. Click Accept to start the installation of the packages.
