fips 2.0 und fips 1.5 :

Im Unterverzeichnis fips20 befindet sich ein Werkzeug, mit 
dessen Hilfe FAT16-, VFAT- und FAT32-Partitionen in der 
Groesse veraendert werden koennen. Neben der Version 2.0 von 
fips ist im Unterverzeichnis fips15 auch noch die 
Version 1.5 beigefuegt. Sie beherrscht noch keine 
FAT32-Partitionen. Die Version 2.0 zeigte sich in unseren 
Versuchen sehr stabil. Da jedoch die Veraenderung eines 
Dateisystems einen ernsthaften Eingriff bedeutet und da 
sich die Version 1.5 ueber lange Zeit als sehr zuverlaessig
erwiesen hat, haben wir uns entschlossen, auch diese Version
mitzuliefern. 

Bitte beachten Sie, dass wir von der Vorgaengerversion 1.5c 
(sie ist mit 2.0 weitestgehend identisch) einige wenige 
Berichte bekommen haben, nach denen die Verwendung 
dieses Programms zu einem  vollstaendigen Datenverlust fuehrte. 

Die Verwendung aller Versionen von fips erfolgt auf 
eigene Gefahr !

Es ist in jedem Fall sinnvoll, vor der Anwendung des
Programms ein Backup aller wichtiger Daten zu erstellen.
Bitte beachten Sie auch, dass erweiterte Partitionen mit
Fips nicht bearbeitet werden koennen.

Ggf. bietet sich die Verwendung eines kommerziellen 
Programms zur Veraenderung der Partitionen an, wie z.B. 
des System Commanders von V Communications Inc. 
(siehe http://www.v-com.com/)

Falls Sie mit fips 2.0 im Zusammenhang mit FAT32 auf 
Schwierigkeiten der genannten Art stossen, waeren wir fuer 
ein Feedback dankbar. Bitte teilen Sie uns in diesem Fall 
die genauen Daten der Partitionen vor/nach der Anwendung 
von fips 15c mit (Befehl 'fdisk -l'). Auch Details ueber 
Ihre Hardware (welche Platte, ...) waeren wichtig. Senden 
Sie ein solches Feedback bitte an feedback@suse.de. Bitte 
beachten Sie, dass wir Supportanfragen zu FAT32 an diese

fips 2.0 and fips 1.5 :

In the subdirectory fips20 you can find a tool for the resizing 
of FAT16-, VFAT- and FAT32-filesystems. Along with version 2.0 
of fips comes version 1.5, which is contained in the subdirectory 
fips15. It can't handle FAT32, though.

In our own tests we encountered  no problems with v. 2.0, FAT32 
filesystems could be resized flawlessly. Since changing the size 
of a partition is a severe operation and since v. 1.5 ran smoothly 
for a long time, we decided to also include this version.

Please note, that there are (very few) reports from our customers, 
that the usage of fips 1.5c (which is almost identical with 2.0) 
in conjunction with FAT32 might lead to a complete loss of data. 

Therefore : Use fips at your own risk !

Before using fips 2.0, we highly recommend to create a backup of
all important data. Please also note that fips can't handle 
extended partitions.

In some cases the usage of a commercial product such as the System
Commander by V Communications Inc. (see http://www.v-com.com/ ) 
might be a wise decision.

If you use fips 2.0 in conjunction with FAT32 and you come across 
problems such as a loss of data, it would help us a lot if you 
could send us some information about the circumstances of the crash.
Please collect information such as the exact geometry of the 
partitions (use 'fdisk -l') before and after the crash. We would 
also be interested in the type of hardware that you use (what 
disks, ...). Please send this information to feedback@suse.com .
