All files of the OpenWebSchool can be downloaded. You can install OpenWebSchool on your favorite system und use the different lessons without being connected to the internet.

You can distribute all files of the OpenWebSchool without any limitation. More information about the OpenSource license can be found at the copyright information page.

For Windows users, a self-extracting and self installing version is provided. During the installation process, twice the diskspace mentioned in the table above is needed for temporary files. The installation routine works like the installion routines of other Windows software: You have to enter a target directory for all the files. An entry to your start menu and an icon to your desktop is added as well. You can deinstall OpenWebSchool over your system configuration.

There are some limitation you should be aware of:

  • Lessons using a CGI script can't be used or only used with limitations. For example you cannot create a new fill-in test, but you can modify an existing one.
  • This means you cannot modify lessons created with the help of a CGI script (e.g. fill-in tests), except you edit the HTML file directly.

Installation for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000

1. Download of the installation file

First, you have to download the following file by just clicking on the link: openwebschool.exe
This is a self-extracting zipped file.

2. Extract the installation file

Once you have finished the download process, you have to extract the files. Run the self-extracting installation file by double clicking on it in the Windows explorer for example. You have to remember the directory where the files were extracted to. This is on most systems the temporary Windows directory, e.g. c:\temp\ or c:\windows\temp.

3. Back-up the installation files to a floppy disk (for installation on another system)

If you are going to install the OpenWebSchool on another system, you should now make a set of floppy disks with the installation files. If you want to install the OpenWebSchool on the system to which you downloaded the file to, continue with step 4.

The extracted files will be copied to directories named "Disk1", "Disk2" and so on. Copy all files of one directory to one floppy disk, so all files of "Disk1" are copied to the first floppy disk; all files of the directory "Disk2" to the second floppy disk and so on. Make a note on the floppy disks to remember the correct order.

4. Installation from hard drive or floppy disk

To start the install process of the OpenWebSchool files, run the program "setup.exe" from the first disk or from the directory "Disk1".

Once you are finished the installation, you can delete the file openwebschool.exe and all temporary files in the directories like "Disk1" and so on.

Installation of the zipped version

Download the zipped version of the OpenWebSchool: openwebschool.zip
If you extract the zipped file, it is important to keep the internal directory structure!
