2.6. Setting Up a Scanner

You can configure a scanner at any time using YaST. The sane package contains hardware drivers and other essentials needed to use a scanner.

  1. Connect your scanner to your computer and turn on the scanner.

  2. Start YaST and select Hardware+Scanner. YaST will check if the sane package is available and install it automatically.

  3. If your scanner is detected automatically, YaST will show it in the Scanner Configuration dialog. Otherwise click Other+Restart Detection:

    • To configure the scanner, select the entry and click Edit.

    • If your scanner cannot be automatically detected, click Add to open the manual configuration dialog:

    1. YaST shows a list of scanner models. If your scanner has been detected automatically, the appropriate model is preselected. Otherwise select the appropriate model and click Next to proceed. Refer to the help text on the left for detailed information.

    2. YaST will check if an additional scanner driver package is needed and install it automatically. The appropriate driver is activated and should recognize the scanner.

  4. The configured scanner appears in the Scanner Configuration dialog.

  5. To test the scanner, click Other+Test.

  6. If configuration has been successful, click Finish to close the YaST scanner module.
