This are the release notes for the Simutrans version 0.81.0

Please find below all release notes of intermediate versions since
release of Simutrans 0.80.0:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This are the release notes for the Simutrans version 0.81.0.pre1:

This is the first prerelease of Simutrans 0.81.0
It has no new features (compared to the 0.80.10c) only bugfixes and
balancing changes. Of course it includes the new translations. I want
to send big thanks to all translators!

But I changed a few of the internals in the hope to gain some
performance. Maybe I broke something.

Please test this prerelease thoroughly. I'll not include new features, just
do bugfixes until the final release of the 0.81.0.
I want to have a stable new official version, so please tell
me about all problems that you find, especially if the problem affects
stability or gameplay.

I was away for nearly three weeks. I have no idea what was discussed
on the mailing list. I hope I didn't miss something important. I'll be
back reading the list regularly next week - this weekend you won't reach
me by email, and most likely it'll take a while until I answer your message,
my mailbox lists 191 messages to be answered.

Volker told me he'll release a new version with new features. While
I'm prepering a new official version, Volker is going on with
developement. So for a while there will be two versions areound,
Volkers new versions, and my prereleases for the next official version.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This are the release notes for the experimental Simutrans version 0.80.10-16:

There are a few fine additions this time:

1) Lots of new train engines from Benjamin "Bennhardt" Siegel. All
available at the revolutionary introduction price of 9999.99 Cr :)
-> actually I want to discuss the prices and running cost of those
engines on the mailing list first.

2) Simutrans can now load heightfields to create maps. Heightfields are
PPM (portable pixmap, binary) images. The brighter a pixel the higher
it will appear in the game. This way you can design your own maps.
(Please, if you create nice heightfields, don't forget to send me a
copy so that I can put it on my website to share it with everyone :)
-> The heightfields must be square. The size of the heightfields must be
a multiple of 64. Simutrans will crash if a heightfield has not enough
land to build at least one city. ATM you can only determine the shape
of the map, not the location of cities and industries (might come
later). The heightfield loading is pretty brittle thing currently,
I guess there are lots of ways to crash Simutrans with unlucky
combinations of heightfields and 'new world' settings - BTW, even
if the landscape shape is determined by the heightfield, the other
settings like number of cites, industry density etc. still apply.

3) New trees, originally contributed by Tomas Kubes, but I changed them
slighty to fit better into Simutrans (IMO). I hope you like them.

4) New icons for the toolbar, well, just let me know what you think.

             - all of Bennhardts engines have same price and running cost,
sensible values will be discussed on the mailing list and
               included

This is just an update for the 0.80.7
You need the 0.80.7 installed to use this update

There are a few fine additions this time:

- Owen Rudges Win32 midi playing routines are finally included. This means
that the Windows version can now again play midi files. The loadness
control doesn't work anymore, you'll have to use the windows/sound card
  control instead.

- Markus Weber patched the depot window to show only matching carriages once
a engine is selected. But all engines are always visible/selectable.

- Roads/railroads and buildings now need maintencene (done automatically)
  which costs some money:
  - road/railroad: 5.00 Cr/month
  - each building: 50.00 Cr/month
(There is a small bug here: ATM oil rigs belong to the player,
and thus the player has to pay maintenance costs for them).
Probaly the numbers need some balancing, but for a start, this shoudl work.

Changed the distribution format: there are now three packages:

simubase-0_80_7_16exp.zip
simulinux-0_80_7_16exp.tar.gz
simuwin32-0_80_7_16exp.zip

You need to get the simubase package and one of the system dependand
packes to install simutrans. I split the packages to save some time
during uploading the files, this way I have to upload about 800k less
than before. I also hope the smaller packages are better to download.

This release is built with the new 16 bit graphics engine.

Maybe the most useful extension is the resizeable map window :)

Volker sent me lots of changes. Take a look at the list below, this is
really impressing, including improved road/trackbuilding and industry
distribution routines :)

Markus provided the basic infrastructure for resizeable windows and
added nice icons the the station list entries. In the long run this will
help to make the UI more convenient.

Chronological list of changes since the 0.80.6-16exp

06/09/02 - MERGE: merged Markus changes
                  - station list now includes icons

                    streamline the class hierarchy
                  - more and more strict tests for building roads/railroads
                  - new industry distribution. Can consider weights, given by

                    branches.
                  - existing screenshots are preserved, new screenshots
                    always get high enough numbers.
                  - changed load/save dialog
                    * buttons for deleting files (take care!)
                    * display save date and time
(That's just a proposal - test it, and let us know if you
                     like it or not)
                  - schedules: depots listed as depot and no longer as waypoint

This are the release notes for the experimental Simutrans version 0.80.6-16:

This release is built with the new 16 bit graphics engine.

The 16 bit graphics engine now provides all features, including
the player object recoloring feature. If no serious problems arise
all future Simutrans versions will be built with this graphics engine

Volker and Hellmade sent me lots of patches. Volker did some tremendous
work on sorting the station and vehicle list in various ways.

Hellmade fixed some small annoying problems, like providing a screenshort
function for the new 16 bit engine. It now saves BMP files.

Volkers changes are really numerous, and just listed as summary entries in
the change log.

0.80.5 was not released, thus there are no release notes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This are the release notes for the experimental Simutrans version 0.80.4-16:

This release is built with the new 16 bit graphics engine.
The engine is slower than the old 8 bit engine, and cannot yet recolor
vehicles and buildings. Day&night mode does not support lights yet.
But it offers much more options for the graphics artists, and will be used
in future officical versions, once all problems are fixed.

This is mainly a bugfix release for the 0.80.3-16exp which suffered
from a serious buffer overflow in the 16 bit graphics engine

There is one change that will affect gameplay: Industries of the same type
now can have different productivities. That means two coalmines may produce
diffferent amounts of coal.

This are the release notes for the experimental Simutrans version 0.80.3-16:

But it offer much more options for the graphics artists, and will be used

New features:

- City building tool. Press Shift-C to choose the tool. But even using this
tool you cannot place more than 64 cities on a map. Costs are 5.000.000 Cr

- The "Random map" button now really generates a random sequence of maps

- Tried to fix the problem that made trucks getting stuck on level crossings
  (untested)

- Tried to fix a problem that sometimes prevented the player AI from
  building tunnels

This version is bundled with Flor Wauters latest config files and image set.
It seems older saved games have graphical problems with this image/config set.
Newly started games should not have any problems.

There seems to be a problem witht e buildings configuration i.e. Trikkys
fountain is configured wrong - the problem is, that Volker changed the
format for the gebaeude.tab file and I got no updated gebaeude.tab file
from Flor yet and thus had to use Volkers version which does not 100%
match Flors latest image set. I guess Flor will offer an update soon
after this release.

Main purpose of this release to give the artista playable 16 bit version at
hand, to test newly created 16 bit images.

The graphics routines are pretty fast now, 40% fatser than the last 16 bit
version. Day&night mode basically workd (no lights). Player color recoloring
doesn't work yet. The appraoch to paint colored bars above the players
properties looks a bit silly - I've disabled that feature in this release.

This are the release notes for the Simutrans update 0.80.1:

This version is just an update for 0.80.0 - unpack the archive into your Simutrans 0.80.0 installation directory.

New:
----

This is mainly a test version to test the in-game help system.
Many dialogs got a new button in the title bar a [?] question
mark. Click it to open a help window for thsi particular dialog.

So far only english help texts exist, and not all dialogs
already have helps associated.

Bugfixes:
---------

Two bugs are fixed, the 'cloud clipping bug' that caused smoke
to appear below factories instead of above, and a bug that
caused Simutrans to crash if a railroad was built at the very edge
or outside of the map.
